What moves the number
Access, more than anything
The single biggest factor, and the one homeowners least expect. Duct in a standing-height basement and identical duct in an 18 inch crawl space or a low attic in August are very different jobs.
How much duct is involved
Resealing a few accessible joints is a small job. Addressing a system that leaks throughout is not.
Repair or redesign
Repair puts right what failed. Redesign changes runs, sizing or returns. Redesign takes more work and more thought.
Materials
Flexible duct, sheet metal and ducted plenums behave differently and are worked differently.
What else the assessment finds
Return air capacity is a frequent finding, and adding return is more involved than sealing supply.
Why we will not quote it remotely
Two houses with identical symptoms can need very different work. Until someone has been into the attic or the crawl space, any number is a guess.
