Why a diagnostic comes first
Almost every HVAC complaint sounds the same from inside the house. The system is not cooling. The heat will not come on. It runs constantly. It makes a noise. Those descriptions are consistent with a dozen different underlying faults, several of which cost very different amounts to put right.
Guessing from a phone call means either overselling you a repair you did not need, or arriving without the part that would have fixed it. Looking at the equipment avoids both.
What the visit covers
- Inspection of the indoor and outdoor equipment.
- Electrical components: capacitor, contactor, wiring and connections.
- Motors: blower and condenser fan.
- Coils, and whether airflow or charge is affecting them.
- Refrigerant charge, and whether a low charge points at a leak.
- Thermostat and control signals.
- A look at airflow and the duct system where it is accessible and relevant.
What you get at the end
An explanation of what we found, in plain terms, and the practical options. Where there is a repair that makes sense, we say so. Where the honest answer is that the equipment is at the end of its life, we say that too and explain why.
“If a repair will get you through the season, we will tell you, even when a new system is the bigger sale.”
The fee
$139, waived when you book the repair. It is a fixed price so you know the cost of getting an answer before you call or text. Comfort Club members get diagnostic calls free as part of the plan.
What we will not do
We will not tell you what is wrong over the phone. Anyone who does is guessing, and a guess that sounds confident is worse than no answer at all.
Common questions
How much is a diagnostic visit?
$139. The fee is waived when you book the repair with us.
Is the fee per system or per visit?
Per visit. If you have more than one system you want looked at, tell us when you get in touch and we will confirm how that works before we come out.
Can you tell me what is wrong over the phone?
No. The same symptoms come from very different faults. We would rather look than guess.
How long does it take?
It depends what we find. A straightforward electrical fault is quick to identify. Intermittent faults and airflow problems take longer because they need more of the system checked.
Do Comfort Club members pay the diagnostic fee?
No. Free diagnostic calls are one of the three things The Comfort Club includes.
