What Happens During an HVAC Diagnostic Visit?

A diagnostic visit is an inspection that finds the actual cause of a fault. It costs $139, takes as long as the fault requires, and ends with an explanation of what we found and what your options are. The fee is waived when you book the repair.

Open seven days a week, 8am to 8pm, plus 24-hour emergency service. Submit a request anytime.

Why the visit exists

Almost every HVAC complaint sounds identical from inside the house. Not cooling. Not heating. Runs constantly. Makes a noise. Each of those is consistent with several different faults that cost very different amounts to fix.

What gets checked

Electrical components including the capacitor and contactor, the blower and condenser fan motors, both coils, the refrigerant charge, the thermostat and control signals, and airflow including the duct system where it is accessible and relevant.

What you get at the end

A plain explanation of what we found, and the practical options with a price attached before any work begins. Where a repair makes sense we say so, including when replacement would be worth more to us.

How long it takes

As long as the fault requires. A clear electrical failure is quick. Intermittent faults and airflow problems take longer because more of the system has to be checked, and a fault that only appears under certain conditions has to be caught in the act.

What it costs

$139, waived when you book the repair. Comfort Club members get diagnostic calls free.

How to help

Note when the problem started, whether it affects the whole house or particular rooms, any new noises or smells, and whether a breaker has tripped. If a breaker has tripped repeatedly, say so and do not keep resetting it.

Common questions

How much is an HVAC diagnostic?

$139, waived when you book the repair with us.

How long does a diagnostic take?

It depends on the fault. Clear electrical failures are quick. Intermittent problems take longer because they have to be caught happening.

Can you diagnose my system over the phone?

No. The same symptoms come from very different faults, and a confident guess is worse than no answer.

Do I need to be home?

Yes. We need access to the indoor equipment and thermostat as well as the outdoor unit, and we want to walk you through what we find.
